LIVERPOOL LINKED WITH YOUNG LEEDS STRIKER
Merseyside giants Liverpool have been linked with a move for Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt according to media reports from the United Kingdom (UK). It would be fourth time lucky for Liverpool if they manage to sign Gelhardt who models his game after Fernando Torres. Coincidentally, Fernando Torres knows all about getting the Liverpool fans off their seats after his hugely successful spell at the club around a decade ago. Spanish strikerTorres was a Liverpool until January 2012 when he forced through a £50m transfer to Premier League rivals Chelsea. Fernando Torres became a Liverpool player in the summer of 2018 when hejoined the Reds from boyhood club Atletico Madrid in the Spanish top flight.
Popular media outlet Goal had revealed that Liverpool are keen to sign Gelhardt when he was making waves at Wigan Athletic thus making it the third time for the team from Merseyside. Liverpool were among the clubs in the race to sign him two years ago before he opted to sign for Leeds United.
After a slow start at Elland Road, Gelhardt is starting to make his mark for Leeds United in the Premier League. Injuries to some first team players at the club led to him being giving opportunities to play Premier League football and he has not done bad till date.
Gelhardt made a bigimpression when he came on as a second half substitute during the recent league game against Wolves as he won a late penalty which was converted by Brazilian winger Raphinha as the Whites rescued a 1-1 draw. He scored his first Leeds United goal in the Premier League against Chelsea at the weekend. Gelhardt came off the bench to score the second Leeds United goal in a 3-2 defeat.
