Fernando Torres has showered glowing praise on his former teammate Steven Gerrard
Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has showered glowing praise on his former teammate Steven Gerrard ahead of the Liverpool midfielder playing his final game for the club.
Gerrard has announced his decision to join LA Galaxy at the end of the campaign. He has been one of the few one club men left in the world and this legacy is set to end with this campaign. Torres enjoyed a great partnership with Gerrard during his few years at Liverpool. During this period, the Spaniard was feared as one of the best strikers in the world.
After managing an astonishing goal record during his time at Anfield, the performances of the player has slipped a lot. This has made him recall more about his glory days at Liverpool. The striker is now playing with Atletico Madrid and he is widely expected to extend his loan spell from AC Milan into next campaign. Torres has struggled for form in his previous clubs like Chelsea and Milan. He has not been a first-team regular at Atletico, but this has not been a cause for concern since he is a supporter of the club. Gerrard, likewise, grew up supporting Liverpool and found it hard to leave the Merseyside club until now.
“I’m sure he’s going to be remembered forever as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, legends in the club.I’m sure he’s very proud of that and I’m very proud of him. I would like for Stevie to play for Liverpool forever and forever but sometimes in life you cannot choose what is better for everybody. You can see the reality, everybody understands his position, and even if they don’t understand they respect his decision because they all love Stevie. Everything he did; you can see the top teams and the clubs, it’s difficult to find a player who stays in the good and the bad times,” said Torres.
