Fernando Torres believes that Atletico Madrid should start playing in an attacking way

Fernando Torres believes that Atletico Madrid should start playing in an attacking way in order to kickstart their campaign.

The club’s failure to retain the domestic league title last season has been seen as a huge negative for manager Diego Simeone. He has been prepared for this campaign with several new faces at the club including Jackson Martinez. After having spent a huge amount of money, the pressure is now on the Argentine manager to deliver the results. Previously, Simeone was overachieving with limited resources at his disposal. This is no longer the case at the Vicente Calderon.

Torres may not be one of the first choice strikers at the club, but he is keen on making an impact once again. He is most likely to begin games from the bench, but the Atletico fan is not worried about this aspect. He is in the final year of his loan spell from AC Milan and if he wishes to make his move permanent, he needs to start delivering sooner rather than later. Torres says that it is important that Atletico make a strong start to the season in order to avoid playing catch-up with Barcelona and Real Madrid. Both these heavyweights will remain overwhelming favourites for the title.

“If you start off with the handbrake on, you’ll get nowhere. To be in the running for some silverware at the end of the season, we have to start right now.We have to be out for everything. That’s what we train for and that’s all we should be focused on,” said Torres. After a mediocre campaign last season, the striker is yet to score in the 109 minutes of action this campaign. He has started one game and come on as a substitute in the other. Jackson Martinez scored in the game against Sevilla recently.
